Hunting and Shooting Season in Extremadura
Take advantage of the hunting and bird shooting season this October through March in the Extremadura region of Spain. As one of Europe’s most important habitats for birds and Spain’s premier red partridge shooting location, there are many opportunities to take advantage of the recreational sport of hunting during your visit.
Organized legal hunts throughout the region encompass the long tradition of hunting for wild boar, deer, partridges, rabbits, mouflon, and hares. Partridge shooting in Extremadura can produce up to 900 birds per day, attracting avid hunters from all over the world to enjoy the best partridge shooting in Europe. Organized legal hunts guide you through “fincas”, or large agricultural estates, where you can shoot high and low flying birds in a scenic setting. It is preferable to hunt on these sites specifically because it saves you the travel time of long car trips and, on most occasions, lunch and snacks can be arranged to ensure a pleasurable experience.
There are a number of fincas located in the countryside near Trujillo where much of the hunting and shooting takes place. Here at Trujillo Villas, we can arrange accommodation for large parties looking to participate in the hunting season. When deciding where to stay, we recommend arranging accommodation at either Villa Martiresor Villa Piedras Albas to be closest to the action.

An alternative to hunting is bird watching, or birding, and excursions are available all over the region. Extremadura carries an abundance of natural resources that are protected by more than twenty nature reserves and national parks that are rich in wildlife. Often Iberian imperial eagles, owls, kestrels, and storks can be seen in the skies. In fact, 337 migratory and native species of birds have been cited to be seen throughout the year in Extremadura (BirdLife, 2008). The wildlife population is so important in the region that its protection is carried beyond these areas into towns and villages that often boast special protection areas. Observe birds of prey like eagles, vultures, and kites, alongside magpies, storks, and cranes amongst others. Villa Moritos, the Artists Studio, and the Townhouse are perfect accommodations for your bird watching holiday.
The hunting and bird shooting season is currently in full swing! Why not try out this alternative holiday adventure during your trip to Trujillo and the Extremadura region in Spain?
